RO Water for sale in Klerksdorp Empty
PostSubject: RO Water for sale in Klerksdorp   RO Water for sale in Klerksdorp EmptyWed 05 Sep 2012, 15:42

Contact me for address in Wilkoppies.

Reverse Osmosis water.

Recommended for soft water tropical fish or as a base to mix for marine water fish.

Very low TDS (Total Dissolved Solids). Currently TDS of 9.3 ppm and Ph of 5.9 Ph. Aged in JoJo tank.

Do not use as is, as it is too void of salts and minerals for fish.

Mix with tap water, 70% RO / 30% tap water, to achieve 140ppm TDS, 8dH and Ph of around 6.8Ph. (Based on Klerksdorp tap water at around 265 ppm TDS, 7.7 pH 15dH not aged straight from tap)

If you want to, decide how hard you want your water and experiment here by us to work out correct mix for your tropical soft water fish, using our Lab. instrument. (Bring 2lt of your tap water with)
Make sure tap water is dechlorinated and aged. (Aged water's pH is higher than straight from the tap)

50c per liter.
Bring own container.

Why bother with mixing water for your tropical fish?

That is a very good question and best answered that the average aquarist should not play with water parameters like pH and TDS. The reason is that stability is better than absolute perfect conditions for fish. This is especially true if the fish you have is conditioned and bread in tap water similar to what you have. Angels, for instance, is a soft water fish from South America and as a wild fish it needs to be kept in very clean, soft water with a pH around 6 pH and TDS of around 140 ppm. But, the fish has been bread and acclimatised by local breeders to such an extend, that it does not matter to these fish. It is perfectly safe to keep them in normal tap water, as long as you keep the pH and hardness stable.

However, there is some sensitive fish, like Neon Tetras and Cardinals, that will not last long in your tank if you use hard water. These fish is very sensitive and must have soft water, free of ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. You address the soft water issue with RO water and the latter three items with good bio filtration and regular water changes.

When we talk about soft water, we refer to the amount of total dissolved solids in the water.

So, if you ever wondered why certain fish just do not survive in your tank, here is some of the reasons.

Chlorine and Chloromines.

Another very common mistake that beginners and novice aquarists make, is to ignore chlorine and chloromines in tap water. Chlorine and chloromines is added to reservoirs, to kill unwanted things like germs in our tap water. It is not added consistently, but rather when tests shows that the count of these items exceed the accepted level. Then a high dose is added and you will sometimes notice it be smelling a Jik smell coming from your tap. You will not always smell this, as lower concentrations is undetectable by your nose. Lots of times there is nothing in the water at all. You must therefore view it as a power failure, that can be rectified at any moment and always assume there is chlorine in your water.

There is two ways to ensure your water is safe for your fish.

1. Add a dechlorinator like Seachem Prime to your water as per instructions on the container.
2. Age your water by letting it stand in a container for at least 24 hours while aerating it vigorously.

The second method does not remove chloramines and it is therefore safer to use a dechlorinator.

Reverse Osmosis remove both these substances completely and you only need to treat your tap water.

Great job there @tomK of explaining in brief the iportance of water quality and the lingo that is often thrown around, it can be especially daunting for a beginner, what with ppm tds pH hard and soft etc. All well addressed in brief.

As for the water, at 50c, it is by far the cheapest I know of in Klerksdorp, and it comes from a reputable source (TomK), who uses it in his tanks, on top of all that it is tested frequently to ensure the quality remains consistant, which is not something you will find at many other water sellers in the KOSH area, who are more concerned with the water for human consumption, and will therefore only worry about the filters no longer working correctly if the water actually begins to taste odd, or have a strange smell, and while this is not a major concern for humans, it could be to late for our wet pets by the time the water reaches this stage. So if you can, and you need/want good quality water, support TomK, that way everybody wins, and your pets will thank you.

I have to agree with Nes! Thanks Tom! Most people make the dreadful mistake of using clean RO water or our local water supply here in Stilfontein our water is like a rollercoaster ride! Our ph 7.5 to 8.5 on good days! The ppm is even worse! At 50 cent a liter RO water its going to be a breeze to hatch and maintain most of my killies.

Just to illustrate the pH effect of aging tap water. Yesterday the pH was 7.7pH straight from the tap. This morning it is 8.177pH. This illustrates the effect of rising pH in aging water. Then keep in mind, the water sample is just a 1lt jug that I did not aerate over the aging period. When you aerate, you let the CO2 out of the water which have the effect of letting the pH rise even more. So, it is no wonder people using tap only water and battle to get pH down in their tanks.
